notes on my lace explorations
four new paintings available

One afternoon in the year 2022, while painting one of my first large scale women pieces, I said to myself, “Hmm. What if I make her wear lace?”
It wasn’t a big moment at all but, I just wanted to try out painting lines and patterns within some sort of context. So, my first attempt at painting lace was on my artwork, Ignorance is Bliss (left), and my second and much better attempt was on Instead, I Sleep (right). Since then, I’ve “attempted” to paint lace on over fifty artworks! 🤯
This is a subject that allows me to merge all the things I love to paint— lines, patterns, leaves, feminine and Filipino energy— in a way that’s delicate and elegant and beautiful. I fell completely in love. Each piece allows me to play around with real and imagined elements of nature, to study how to incorporate lights and shadows in my work and my favorite thing of all, to paint a loooot of lines and patterns.
That said, I’m happy to have been given the opportunity to share four new lace pieces at Lamina 2025— a curated lifestyle fair celebrating Filipino creativity through art, fashion and design rooted in sustainability and purpose.

Under the curation of Gallery Nine, I created four pieces inspired by the incredible work of the one and only Patis Tesoro, one of the featured artists for this weekend’s event.
These artworks were a joy to make and a little bit heartbreaking to let go of, hahaha! But should you be interested in purchasing, please contact Bea from Gallery Nine at +639778073369.
These artworks, along with the master works of Dominic Rubio, Nikulas Lebajo, Richard Buxani and of course my peers, Anna Orlina and Bea Policarpio will be on display May 2-4, 2025 at City of Dreams.
And while you’re in the area, my ongoing solo exhibit at Conrad Manila is ongoing until May 10, 2025. Hope you are able to see these shows in person! If not, don’t worry. There will be more! 😉

So lovely, Kara 🌷 Lace Number 37!
Beautiful work!
